Making Stamps

We’ve been exploring the world of printmaking lately and there’s so much to discover.

Materials

  • old CDs
  • craft foam with sticky back
  • scissors
  • tape
  • paint

Paint First

Before making your stamp, you’re going to need a background color. It’s a good idea to get this painted right away so it has time to dry before you stamp.

Draw, Cut, Stick

Start by imagining your stamp and the shapes you want. Draw your concept on the paper side of the craft foam. Cut the shapes out, peel off the paper, and stick it to the CD. We also put a piece of tape on the backside of the CD to make a nifty handle.

Hints for Stamping

The secret to success is to not apply too much paint, apply and stamp quickly, and don’t press your stamp to the paper too hard (it squishes all the paint out).
