Seeing It Come Together
It’s amazing how our brains sort dots of color into images. My students were surprised to see their efforts coalesce into recognizable images. Check out the previous post to learn more about this project.
It Took Forever
But the results are fun to look at.
Would I do it again? I’m not sure. The time committment to the pixel portraits is not reasonable in a twelve week class. On the other hand, the massive amount the students learned was invaluable (read Neil Gaiman’s quote again up above). I could see the change over the course of the project: the students became faster in color mixing, more sure of the adjustments their pigments needed, and more organized in their process.
